One important correction. I do not concede that there is a “possible” increase in coal use in a regional grid. Quite the contrary. Coal use is likely to decline in a regional market as it competes with lower cost renewable power. That has been the experience in all the nation’s organized markets where approximately 30,000 megawatts of coal capacity have been retired in the last six years. Some 13,000 additional megawatts of coal are forecast to be retired by the end of 2018 alone.

Comment on Advocates call Michigan utility’s net metering replacement ‘outrageous’ by Frank https://energynews.us/2018/07/20/advocates-call-michigan-utilitys-net-metering-replacement-outrageous/#comment-472370 Sat, 21 Jul 2018 00:02:05 +0000 https://energynews.us/?p=1168533#comment-472370 When you destroy the profit structure of these utilities, you have to expect them to push back. Fortunately no one’s buying their nonsense anymore.

Solar owners save ALL ratepayers money by capping peak demand so no new power plants need to be built. When costs go down, utilities lose money. Hence this attack.

Now Nevada is voting on deregulation, so maybe DTE should try and keep their monopoly and learn to live with solar and help us all save the planet.

We have developed solar windows, walls, balcony systems, solar street lights, and cold cathode lighting that together cut commercial building energy purchases by 70%. DTE will not win thinking about just themselves instead of our planet’s survival.
